About Dr Emmanuel Amadi

Dr Emmanuel Amadi is a healthcare executive, pharmacist, entrepreneur and former Non-Executive Director with more than 26 years' experience across regulated healthcare, digital pharmacy, clinical governance, business leadership and organisational transformation.

His career has taken him from frontline hospital and community pharmacy into management, entrepreneurship, board governance, doctoral research and senior clinical leadership.

A defining chapter of that journey began in 2011 when he founded E E Amadi Ltd while completing his Executive MBA at Lancaster University Management School. Following six months of research into entering the highly regulated UK pharmacy market, he translated the strategy into a working healthcare business.

As Founder, CEO and Superintendent Pharmacist Director of Drugs4U Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Wholesale, he built an NHS-contracted distance-selling pharmacy and subsequently expanded the business into pharmaceutical wholesaling.

Under his leadership, the company grew from start-up to more than £1.2 million in annual turnover and over 50 employees before he successfully sold the business in August 2018.

His executive responsibilities extended across strategy, finance, people, clinical governance, digital pharmacy operations, procurement, pharmaceutical supply chains and regulatory compliance, including GPhC, MHRA, Wholesale Distribution Authorisation and Controlled Drugs governance.

His record of commercial improvement began well before entrepreneurship. At ASDA Pharmacy, he helped increase NHS prescription volume from approximately 4,000 to almost 6,000 items per month, contributed to turnover growth to more than £1 million annually, and increased OTC sales by approximately 30% to more than £150,000. At Lloyds Pharmacy, he supported the acquisition and mobilisation of two care-home accounts, generating more than 800 additional prescriptions per month and approximately £12,000 in additional monthly income. At Tesco Pharmacy, he increased annual revenue from clinical and private pharmacy services by more than £17,000, including vaccination clinics and other professional services.

From entrepreneur to scientist

After selling Drugs4U, Emmanuel pursued another longstanding ambition: advanced scientific research.

He completed a PhD in Medical Sciences (Nanotoxicology) at the University of Bradford, England, UK (Dec. 2019), researching DNA damage associated with graphene oxide exposure using blood from healthy individuals and patients with asthma, COPD and lung cancer.

His landmark PhD thesis, titled: “Effects of Graphene Oxide in vitro on DNA Damage in Human Whole Blood and Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes from Healthy Individuals and Pulmonary Disease Patients: Asthma, COPD and Lung Cancer”, investigated nanoparticle‑induced DNA damage in vulnerable respiratory patients.

Between December 2019 and May 2025, his PhD thesis alone has been viewed over 270 times and downloaded more than 550 times across 20 countries—including the UK, USA, China, and Russia—by academics, clinicians, policymakers, and industry professionals seeking real-world evidence on the safety of nanomaterials and pulmonary disease. His research papers have been cited in over 130 scholarly citations, reflecting sustained international interest and use.

His findings have been referenced in specialist Nanotechnology textbooks under Nanotoxicology Chapters and in major review articles on graphene-based nanomaterials and respiratory toxicology, meaning his work now sits inside the core evidence base that others use to design new studies, interpret toxicity data, and shape safety and policy decisions. For senior leaders and organisations, this level of scientific impact signals that the same rigour that shapes global debates on risk and innovation underpins the tools and frameworks he brings to leadership and business training. 

This scientific background has given him an unusual perspective at the intersection of healthcare, science, patient safety, regulation and business.

He subsequently returned to frontline healthcare leadership and today combines clinical practice with medicines governance, service development, professional leadership and the development of other healthcare professionals.

He is also trained by the UK Adult ADHD Network (UKAAN) in Adult ADHD assessment, diagnosis and pharmacological treatment, complementing his work as a pharmacist and independent prescriber (University, of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland).

Board and governance experience

Emmanuel has also served as a Founding Non-Executive Director and Trustee of a Multi-Academy Trust, contributing independent scrutiny across strategy, finance, risk, governance, organisational performance and executive decision-making.

That experience strengthened a leadership philosophy shaped by having occupied several sides of organisational life: employee, clinician, manager, business owner, CEO, Superintendent Pharmacist and Non-Executive Director.

He therefore understands both the responsibility of executives to deliver results and the responsibility of boards to challenge, govern and protect the long-term interests of an organisation.

Executive education and international perspective

Alongside his PhD, Emmanuel holds an Executive MBA from Lancaster University Management School, an MSc in Analytical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and a Bachelor of Pharmacy.

His executive development has included Strategic Leadership at Harvard University Extension School, the Aspiring Non-Executive Directors Programme at Bayes Business School in London, and international business education at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University in Beijing.

The Peking University programme included market-entry strategy, engagement with industry and the practical application of international business theory—experience that subsequently influenced his approach to entering the UK pharmacy market.

Leadership beyond the boardroom

Emmanuel is the Founder of The Amadi Global Institute (TAGi) and host of The Dr Amadi Leadership Exchange Podcast, Glasgow, through which he shares practical lessons on leadership, management, entrepreneurship, resilience and professional development.

He is also the author of five books covering leadership, entrepreneurship, career development and personal growth.

His work is grounded in a simple conviction: leadership should ultimately be measured not merely by position or title, but by the organisations we strengthen, the people we develop and the value we leave behind.
